This is the 12 inch "Bengal Red" vase lamp. The even red color was applied to the inside of a clear vase, then fired on. The purplish colored band you see toward the bottom of the vase is part of an iridescent finish that was applied to the outside of the glass, as was the gold paint that surrounds the base. The iridescent finish appears as a rainbow of colors depending on how and where light strikes the vase.

It shared the distinction, along with the Variegated Verde, and the Variegated Tan vase lamps, of being the first glass lamps manufactured by the Aladdin Mantle Lamp Company at it's new glassworks facility in Alexandria, Indiana.

All of the 12 inch vase lamps have three large "toes" or feet on the bottom of the vase. They also have a large band of gold paint around the bottom of the vase on the outside, except for the orange vase which has a black band.

The 12 inch designation on the large Aladdin vase lamps is the measurement from the toe (foot), to the rim of the glass vase without the oil font in place.
